Mikki,
+1 on the Wisconsin Forest History Association. Besides knowing where some
interesting objects might be, they would also have contacts for some
knowledgeable speakers.
At the Chippewa County Historical Society, we would have a select number of
logging objects that you could borrow for a period -- and a few that you
could just *have* if you wanted. In the latter category, those objects
aren't accessioned as CCHS artifacts, and they duplicate things in the
collection that are artifacts.
Now, individually the latter objects don't have any particular story
associated with them, nor any provenance really, but they would be
indicative of *kinds* of activities loggers and river workers would do:
common objects -- cant hook, buck saw, etc., etc. You (or anyone else
reading this, for that matter) could let me know if you're interested...
I'm really pretty sure we don't have a Necedah log roller, but I'll
definitely look again.
