On Thursday, May 6 at 6:30pm, the Driftless Historium hosts
historian and educator Kathe Crowley Conn for
“Journeys with Juliette: A Virtual Conversation with the Author.”
In 1830, a young socialite named Juliette Magill Kinzie moved from Connecti
cut to an isolated military encampment in pre-statehood Wisconsin with her
husband, John, federal Indian Agent to the Ho-Chunk (Winnebago) tribe. She
later wrote a best-selling book about her experiences, “Wau-Bun: The ‘E
arly Day’ in the Northwest” -an important first person account of life
on the frontier, including an ill-fated trip through the Mount Horeb and Bl
ue Mounds area during an unexpected spring snowstorm!
Join Conn for an online presentation and chat; she’ll read selections fro
m her Wisconsin Historical Society Press Badger Biography, “Juliette Kinz
ie: Frontier Storyteller,” and share her thoughts and a few surprises abo
ut this enterprising and observant young woman.
