Colleagues-
If we are to use this criteria, the case can be made that the CIA, NSA,
Pentagon, DOD & the White House would receive a "Results Not
Demonstrated" rating in Mesopotamia viz-à-viz WMDs! Hmmm.....let's
see what the savings would be?
In taking a stand against the US government's misadventure in
Indo-China, MLK the link between imperialism & poverty at home:
"...A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on
military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching
spiritual death...."
And, didn't Dwight Eisenhower warn about the dangers and ramifications
of a military-industrial complex?
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired
signifies, in a final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not
fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not
spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the
genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."
You do the math: 52% of FY2005 went to military spending - not counting
homeland "security." Couple that w/a jobless recovery, O.I.L (Operation
Iraqi "Liberation") & trillions of dollars in tax cuts for Bill Gates et
al, plus GW still has a goal of slashing the federal deficit in half by
the conclusion of his second illegitimate term. Sorry folks, but your
kids may have to starve & hang around a soup kitchen or two so that Bill
Gates & George Soros can double the sizes of their tans, yachts, villas
and tax-sheltered portfolios in the Cayman Islands!
Can you say...."Charles Dickens" and "Thomas Hobbes?"

In the justification of the new budget, stated is that Upward Bound and
Talent Search have not proven effective. Does anyone have the numbers to
contradict this statement? I can't believe this is accurate.
