A proposal for a progressive campus film series:
Progressives from across campus are coming together on this Thursday,
9/29:
The Conservationists are putting on a film this coming Thursday in
Phillips 007 at 7:00pm. They are showing "Oil on Ice", a documentary
about the Alaska Wildlife Refuge. After the meeting we will discuss the
future of such films on campus.
We are looking for a leader to make sure that other organizations can
easily show films as part of a series and that they are well advertised
within a multimedia network. The Progressive Media Network, a new
student organization affiliated with the Progressive Student Association
is willing to take up the task, but a leader or two must be found to
head up this branch of their network that includes film, a publication,
web, TV, and radio.
Hope to see you there as we take this step,
Jeremy Gragert

A proposal for a progressive campus film festival:
Bob Nowlan is currently considering the possibility of offering a
special directed study class for the spring 2006 semester to any and all
students interested in working together with Bob to produce a
Progressive Campus Film Festival that would run toward the end of the
semester, likely late April/early May for approximately a week to ten
days (along lines similar to what Bob did with a group of twenty
students who worked together with him to produce the April 2003 UWEC
Irish Film Festival). Students would enroll for one to three credits of
English 395 (depending upon how much credit they wanted/how much work
they planned to devote to the festival). They would work together with
Bob on the following: the selection and design of the overall schedule
and program, arranging rooms and equipment, publicity and promotion,
connections with campus and community progressive groups, supportive
fundraising, the obtaining of copies of films as well as potentially,
should this prove feasible, the hosting of guest film makers or
progressive organizers/activists featured in films to be screened as
part of the festival. The festival would feature the screening and
discussion of films dealing with panoply of progressive issues and
causes, with local progressive groups maintaining a particular interest
in or connection with each issue or cause invited to lead discussion
subsequently and to use this as an occasion to network and encourage
people to become involved with their ongoing work. If interested,
contact Bob soon so he can determine whether sufficient interest exists
to offer this class, and to work to produce this festival. We need a
minimum of 15 committed students to make this happen (although 20+ would
be even better).
