Benefit and Live Jam for Dr. Eberth Alarcon, UW-Eau Claire Faculty
Member
Eau Claire, WI, September 5, 2005:
Music and healing will be the themes for an upcoming benefit and live
jam.
On Friday, October 13, 2006 at 7:30 p.m., the English and Math
Departments at UW-Eau Claire will sponsor a benefit for Dr. Eberth
Alarcon, a faculty member in the Math Department. Several months ago Dr.
Alarcon was diagnosed with leukemia, and the benefit will assist him
with expenses related to his hospitalization and treatment. The benefit
will take place at Stella Blues, 306 E. Madison Street. Several
musicians and groups associated with the university community will
perform at the event, including Davey J and the Jones Tones and
Clearwater Roots Fusion. Appetizers will be provided at the event by
Linda Mogenson and the staff of Stella Blues, and a cash bar will also
be available.
The benefit promises to be a lively affair, with university faculty,
students, and community members invited to attend. In addition to the
live music, invited guests will have an opportunity to share some of
their thoughts from the bandstand. A suggested donation of $10 will be
collected at the event. Guests are also encouraged to give larger
donations to help Dr. Alarcon and his wife, Dr. Asha Sen of the UWEC
English Department, while he is on medical leave.
Dr. Alarcon has now undergone chemotherapy at Sacred Heart Hospital and
a cord cell transplant at the University of Minnesota Medical Center.
He has the loving support of his wife and several family members who
have stayed with him for extended periods. The entire university
community has rallied behind Dr. Alarcon, and all are hopeful for a full
recovery.
Ms. Kate Hinnant and Dr. Stacy Thompson, who are also members of the
UWEC English Department, have taken the lead in keeping the university
community informed about Dr. Alarcon's recovery. Several faculty
members have made regular visits to Sacred Heart Hospital and to the
University of Minnesota's care facility to provide company and
encouragement. Other faculty members of the English Department have
volunteered to cover Dr. Asha Sen's courses on a short term basis if the
need arises.
