Tuesday, April 24 – 7:30-9:00 p.m. – Eau Claire Room, L.E. Phillips Mem orial Public Library

A panel of experts will discuss banned books and intellectual freedom in Am erica as those issues relate to the themes of Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 4 51 and similar works. The session will focus on questions from the audience
 after some opening dialog.

Moderated by Timothy Shiell, professor of philosophy at UW-Stout, the panel
 will include:

Dr. Nicholas Karolides – A professor of English at UW-River Falls, Karoli des is an author of several books on censorship and banned books, including
: The Encyclopedia of Censorship (2005), and 120 Banned Books: Censorship H
istories of World Literature (2005). He is an editor of Censored Books: Cri tical Viewpoints (1993).

Ginny Moore Kruse – Between 1976 and 2002, Kruse was director of the Coop erative Children’s Book Center of the School of Education at UW-Madison. On the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the Freedom to Read Foundation i n 1999, Kruse was named to an Intellectual Freedom “Roll of Honor,” ack nowledging Intellectual Freedom “Champions” in each of the 50 states.

Michael Golrick – Director of the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library i n Eau Claire.

Tim Hirsch – Professor emeritus of English at UW-Eau Claire.
