Hi, everyone...I would encourage interested people to read the text of the
Factcheck discussions rather than rely on the summaries. The summaries of
the conflict with the local librarian and of Palin's participation in/tacit
support for the Alaskan Independence Party are understated compared to the
fuller discussions contained right there on the same page. Having read so
me of the original news articles related to these controversies, I thought
Factcheck.org's info included some reasonable corrections in certain false
internet rumors (such as the list of books, which was widely known to be an
inaccurate list), but I think the net community and the left/mainstream pr
ess has brought quite a bit to light with their vetting of Palin's record,
and this information ought not to be dismissed amid the genuine effort to s
eparate unsubstantiated rumor from legitimate stories.

Info below about Palin from Factcheck.org. If anyone has proven that Factch
eck.org is incorrect, let's pass around the info.
Factcheck.org<http://www.factcheck.org/> has done some legwork on the Palin
rumors flying around the Internet. Here's the start of their report, with
a link to their analysis: We've been flooded for the past few days with que
ries about dubious Internet postings and mass e-mail messages making claims
about McCain's running mate, Gov. Palin. We find that many are completely
false, or misleading.
* Palin did not cut funding for special needs education in Alaska by 62
percent. She didn't cut it at all. In fact, she tripled per-pupil funding o
ver just three years.
* She did not demand that books be banned from the Wasilla library. Some
of the books on a widely circulated list were not even in print at the tim
e. The librarian has said Palin asked a "What if?" question, but the librar
ian continued in her job through most of Palin's first term.
* She was never a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, a group that
wants Alaskans to vote on whether they wish to secede from the United Stat
es. She's been registered as a Republican since May 1982.
* Palin never endorsed or supported Pat Buchanan for president. She once
wore a Buchanan button as a "courtesty" when he visited Wasilla, but short
ly afterward she was appointed to co-chair of the campaign of Steve Forbes
in the state.
* Palin has not pushed for teaching creationism in Alaska's schools. She
has said that students should be allowed to "debate both sides" of the evo
lution question, but she also said creationism "doesn't have to be part of
the curriculum."

A member of the Wasilla Library Board sent a list of books and authors Sara
h Palin tried to have banned from the library. Vonnegut, Twain, Harper Lee,
Steinbeck, J.D. Salinger, Solzhenitsyn, J.K. Rowling, Faulkner (White Hous
e Named Desire) and, sit down before reading, Maya Angelou's I know Why the
Caged Bird Sings. (Somehow my mind sees Palin with a shotgun, ready to sho
ot the uncaged bird.) Truly nutty.
Palin's church is on God's far-right. She prayed for a gas pipeline and her
church is sponsoring a prayer confab for gay conversion to the heterosexua
l life. "Pray away the gay!" How about a mention of climate change?
The good news? All you have to do is tell the truth about Governor Palin.
She won't meet the press other than People magazine. (Who knew it was still
being published?) But she will talk with good-time Charlie Gibson. A real
treat in store.
Generous: I announced at Fighting Bob Fest <http://www.fightingbobfest.org/

000 in the buckets. Thank you!
