On Saturday, November 7th, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum invites
visitors to participate in its Great Lakes Shipwrecks Family Activity
Day. Visitors can learn about diving in Lake Michigan from Mike Hansen,
owner of Maritime Divers, at 10:30. All day, families can complete a
shipwreck-related scavenger hunt in the museum's galleries. At various
times throughout the day, the museum's education staff will tell the
tragic tales of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald in Lake Superior, the sinking
of the Eastland in the Chicago River, and the last voyage of the
schooner Rouse Simmons in Lake Michigan. Children and parents can
discover what it's like to explore a shipwreck using objects in our
simulated shipwreck site. Short documentaries on shipwreck preservation
will also be showing in the museum theater. All activities are free
with regular museum admission or museum membership.
