The Research and Writing of a Long Range Conservation Plan
Date: August 23-24, 2010
Location: American Swedish Institute, Minneapolis, MN
This 2-day workshop will assist participants in developing and writing a Lo
ng Range Conservation Plan, a tool that defines institutional preservation
and conservation goals for a 5- to 10-year period. An integrated component
of this workshop is the development of an accompanying funding strategy as
a part of the final plan. The course will cover the basics of the writing p
rocess for this document, including how to establish a length and structure
appropriate to each type of institution. Other topics will include how to
use recommendations from a General Preservation Needs Assessment Survey com
bined with curatorial priorities to develop a realistic prioritized plan, a
s well as reviewing the Federal Grant Funding Protocol to make sure appropr
iate projects are developed in a logical progression. The instructor will w
ork directly with participants to develop a detailed outline to use toward
completion of the plan at their home institution. A notebook of related tec
