Agency House Hosts “Historic Handiwork” Children’s Workshop
  The Historic Indian Agency House of Portage will host a session of their po pular Hands-On History youth clinics on Saturday, July 17th from 2 to 4PM
. The event, entitled “Historic Handiwork: Children’s Embroidery Work shop and Tea Party,” is centered on the importance of sewing in the 19t h century. Participants will start the day with a tour of the Indian Agency
 House museum, where they will be shown a wide variety of needlework and hand sewn artifacts from the 1830s. They will practice different stitching techniques before creating their own embroidered handkerchief to take home.
 The afternoon will wrap up with a relaxing and tasty tea party, where we ary fingers will get the rest they deserve.
  This workshop is recommended for ages 8 to 12 years, although younger chi ldren are welcome with an adult companion. (Calling all Grandmas!!) The cos t is $10 per child, and includes the guided museum tour, all sewing mat erials and the tea party. Reservations are recommended (a maximum of 20 pa rticipants will be permitted), but not required.
  This workshop fulfills select requirements for two Girl Scout badges, the
 “Yarn and Fabric Arts” and “Sew Simple” badges. In addition, all
 Girl Scout participants will receive a “Tea Party” fun patch at the cl ose of the session.
  The Historic Indian Agency House is open May 15 to October 15 daily, and hosts many educational programming opportunities and special events through out the year.
