The Waushara County Historical Society leases the museum (sq. footage unk nown...it is the old Waushara County Jail) for $1.00 every 25 years and 5 0% of the garage next to it for the same amount I believe. The County tak es care of the lawn and most of the snow removal  and pays our heat and e lectricity. We pay approx. $90.00/mo for phone and DSL internet ($1086.21
for 2009), as well as Repairs and Maintenance on the building ($740.66 f or 2009). We are responsible for the upkeep of the building. Our liabilit y insurance and insurance on an 1896 hearse came to $466 for 2009. We als o spent $1185.84 for office supplies (toner, ink, paper, glue sticks, loo seleaf notebooks, etc.). Since we have added a genealogy department, our office and internet expenses have increased considerably.

Bruce Runnels, curator and treasurer.

We are a small museum in Mukwonago which has a house mu seum, a wing of native American collection and a small log cabin outbuil ding which we use as a gift shop.  The village owns the buildings and maintains the grounds.  In addition they pay the heat, light, water, in surance, telephone and security.  While we have increased our membership

we would not be able to maintain the buildings if we did have to pay for
these items.  The Public Works department maintains the lawn and helps with minor repa irs.  We also have a fund from the village for improvements.  While it is a modest amount of $5000.00 it does help with unexpected rep airs.  The society owns and maintains the artifacts and we pay for pro grams, internal improvements, painting etc.  You do want to consider a pplying for grant dollars as expenses that you don't think about do po p up.  We have received over the past 5 years $30,000 in grant dollars
. We also do not charge any admission finding that we did better with do nations.  If you are not a 501c3 think about applying for tax exempt s tatus as this will help donors who may give over $250.00.  Hope this h elps, good luck
