The exhibition "Handmade Meaning: The Value of Craft in Victorian and Conte mporary Culture" opens Friday December 17 in the James Watrous Gallery (3rd
 floor of the Overture Center, downtown Madison). This exhibit explores the
 relationship between late 19th and early 20th century fancywork created by
 Wisconsin women, objects made by people active in the current DIY craft mo vement, and work by contemporary Wisconsin artists who use historic handicr aft techniques and materials.

The exhibit features quilts, embroidery, hair wreaths, lace, china painting
, and other objects generously loaned by historical societies and museums a cross the state: Brown County Historical Society Chippewa Valley Museum Dodge County Historical Society Marathon County Historical Society Mayville Historical Society Milwaukee County Historical Society Mt. Horeb Area Historical Society Oconto County Historical Society Oneida Nation Museum Rock County Historical Society
