Sunday in the Cemetery – Living History Tour

June 28

Walnut Hill Cemetery in Baraboo will be the location for the Sunday in the Cemetery – Living History Tour presented by the Sauk County Historical Society on Sunday, June 28 at 2 p.m. Tour participants will be guided through the cemetery to the graves of famous and ordinary people and hear stories from costumed interpreters. This year’s tour will celebrate the centennial of the Al. Ringling Theatre by focusing on people related to or who worked for the Ringling family. From the Ringling mausoleums to the pauper’s section of the cemetery the stories of 10 people will come to life. Tour participants will hear about the lives of Al. and Lou Ringling and their nephew Henry E. Ringling as well as their cousin Charles Gollmar who survived one of the worst circus train disasters in history and cousin Alma Waite who gifted nearly three quarters of a million dollars to the city of Baraboo. Other stops include Cynthia Owens an African American pioneer with deep American roots, Charley Dietz, the unfortunate horse wrangler, George Isenberg, the Ringlings’ favorite builder, trick rider Elbridge Hocum, and boss hostler Charles Rooney. Tour tickets will be sold the day of the tour at the cemetery and will be $8 per person. Don’t miss this historical event which only comes along every few years.
