The City of Middleton provides a space rent free for our second museum in the Downtown at the Middleton Depot. The Board President (me) and Volunteer Coordinator are also City employees.

Years ago, when I represented the Neosho/Rubicon Historical Society, I negotiated the purchase of the old village hall. The village board wanted to use a portion of the basement for the fire department. I convinced the village board that it would be uneconomical to have two electrical meters, due to the small amount of electrical usage, and to just run the electrical bill through the villages' meter. I also convinced them to keep the insurance on the building but to have our name on the insurance contract. (Both are more hidden support than by having special line items in the budget.)

Good luck! The Waterloo Area Historical Society in the past, received up to $3,000 then down to $1,500 and now zero the last three years.
Budgets are tight. So we "plug" along doing fundraisers, etc. to earn money to keep operating.

Hello,
I am wondering if any of your organizations receive help from the city where you are located and if so, what kind of help or how many dollars. I will be attending our city council meeting to ask for some assistance and would like to have information on what other Wisconsin towns and cities do to support their local historical societies. Bringing facts to this meeting would give me some ammunition!
Thanks everyone!
