alverson, Iola Historical Society’s Educational Program chairman, w
ill use information from the 1916 and 1966 Iola Heralds to take a look back
at history 100 years and 50 years ago. His PowerPoint presentation will sh
ow what the papers appeared like at the time, what businesses were around,
and what made the news. Some interesting and sometimes humorous articles wi
ll be read at the presentation, to be held Monday, Feb. 29, 2016. 1916 is a
n interesting year as it was the transition time from the horse and buggy t
o gas-powered vehicles, while 1966 proved to be a pivotal year as there wer
e a lot of new buildings being constructed and events that took place, all
of which still influence the Iola area today. The presentation will be hel
d in the Machine Shed of the Iola Historical Society complex located at 222
Depot Street. A business meeting will be held at 6:30 pm with the program
to follow
approximately at 7:00 pm. The presentation and meeting are open to the pub
