Hi Sue,
That sounds a lot like what we are doing. We mailed out renewal lette
rs with a form attached for people to fill out with addresses, emails, phon
e numbers and a place for them to check if it a membership renewal new memb
ership, a monetary donation and if they are willing to volunteer. The
plan right now is to follow up with a thank you letter to those who respon
d.

At the New Berlin Historical Society we no longer send out membership card
s. True, they are tangible evidence of belonging, but that is all.Â
We do not charge admission to our Open Houses or to the two public meet
ings we have each year with a speaker, so they wouldn't be needed then..Â
We send out letter or email reminders when it is renewal time. We
ask them to complete a brief application and return it with a check.Â
The application helps us keep current with their address, emails and phone
numbers and there is also a place where they can check if they would be in
terested in volunteering. I acknowledge all new members and personally call
the ones that are interested in volunteering.

Hello,
At the Mondovi Area Historical Society, we are currently in the process of
sending out membership renewal letters to our members and others in the com
munity who have expressed interest in our Society and in general cleaning u
p our membership rolls. We are having a debate among our officers whe
ther or not membership cards are necessary. I am inquiring what other
societies are doing regarding such cards, do you send them out or if not h
ow do you acknowledge membership renewals or new memberships?
Thanks.
