"...it is the duty of every good citizen to use all the opportunities, whic

Dear Friend:
In conjunction with the Wisconsin Historical Society, the Wisconsin Histori
cal Records Advisory Board invites nominations for the 2019 Governor’s Ar
chives Awards.
The Governor’s Archives Awards (GAA) recognize outstanding work with hist
orical records. The awards honor individuals, organizations, and formal pro
grams that make distinctive contributions to historical records preservatio
n and access. You may find more information about the GAA and all other Wis
consin Historical Society awards at: http://bit.ly/2CVWCSk
Many past award recipients have effectively used the Governor’s Archives
Award to help expand their program budgets and overall effectiveness. We o
ffer three award categories for institutions or individuals whose work is d
istinctly archival in nature:
Governor’s Archival Achievement Award – recognizing a historical record
s repository that has made an outstanding contribution to the archival prof
ession or a notable achievement of value to the archives community, its pat
rons, or constituents. The activity or contribution nominated must be for
current and continuing work.
Governor’s Archival Innovation Award – recognizing individuals or organ
izations that successfully experiment with new ways to demonstrate the sign
ificance or relevance of historical records for understanding the past, or
who utilize historical records to reach new audiences. The activity or cont
ribution nominated must have occurred within the last three years, and may
be continuing.
Governor’s Archival Advocacy Award – honors an individual or organizati
on in Wisconsin or elsewhere for notable contributions to Wisconsin archiva
l programs through organizational leadership, public advocacy, and financia
l or volunteer support. The nominated individual or organization must be ad
vocating for Wisconsin programs. The activity or contribution must be for
current and continuing work that is continuing.
We hope you consider nominating your own organization or another person or
organization whose work deserves this special recognition. The deadline for
nominations this year is Friday, March 15. Award recipients will be infor
med in mid-May. Award ceremonies usually occur October in conjunction with
Archives Month.
You may find background information, eligibility, criteria, nomination form
s, and instructions on the Wisconsin Historical Society’s website at:
