Presenters:
Kimera Way In her capacity as the President of the University of Wiscon
sin Foundation, Kimera has been a key player in many community development
projects, including the creation of the Pablo Center at the Confluence, Con
verge Radio, and continues to work toward big ideas such as the Sonnentag E
vent and Recreation Complex, and Haymarket Landing. She connects people wit
h the resources and contacts they need to complete their missions. Kimera s
peaks on fundraising, building a comprehensive development program for orga
nizations of all sizes and budgets, public-private partnerships, and strate
gic planning for nonprofit management.
Laura Jensen Making Museums More Research-friendly. Laura has a lot of
experience in this area, and she is willing to share her tips. She uses r
esources such as court records, local newspaper archives, 1938 Wisconsin ar
ial photographs, Digital Public Library of America, local history books, in
terviewing elderly residents.
Kristen Whitson - is a researcher and archivist. After working in Human Re
sources for fifteen years, Kristen went back to school to complete her Mast
ers in Library and Information Studies, specializing in archives at the
University of Wisconsin Madisons Information School. Kristen worked with
both the Wisconsin Historical Society and the UW-Madison University Archiv
es. Kristen currently works with WiLS and Recollection Wisconsin. Kristen
will be talking about how to start a digitization project in a small histor
y organization.
Greg Kocken Greg is the Head of Special Collections and is the Universi
ty Archivist and Associate Professor at UW-Eau Claire. He is an expert in
local history, genealogy, archives, and local architecture. He will be spe
aking on Managing a Small Archives.
Frank Smoot Frank has been described as a Chippewa Valley history exper
t extraordinaire. He spent 14 years as executive director of the Chippewa
Valley Museum, oversaw the opening of the Coos Historical and Maritime Muse
um on the southern coast of Oregon, and helped the Dunn County Historical S
ociety open a new museum wing and revamp half its exhibits before coming to
the Chippewa County Historical Society to lead them in their plans to buil
d their new History Center. All of this makes him more than qualified to t
alk about Museum Hacks for Building Exhibits on a Budget. Frank will also
be giving us a tour of the new museum.
