On Wednesday, Feb. 16, Claire Schmidt
will be a guest speaker in
Geography 378 (International
Environmental Problems and Policy)
in Phillips 104, at 11:00-11:50 am.
She is a past Local Issues Director for
Clean Wisconsin (formerly Wisconsin's
Environmental Decade). There are a
few extra seats for interested faculty
or students.
Claire will be speaking about
hydroelectric dams in Manitoba
(Canada) that have adversely affected
the Pimicikamak (Cross Lake)
Cree First Nation. The issue
is related to the proposed
Duluth-Wausau transmission line
in Wisconsin, since some of the
imported electricity would be
from Manitoba. Claire will also
be showing the "Deadly Power"
video that she helped produce.
Faculty: Claire is available
for other classes on Wednesday
afternoon; you
can contact her directly at
schmidtc22@hotmail.com
