Dear friend,

Did you know that in the past year, big banks and financial firms have spent $500 million to defeat financial reform legislation -- despite the fact that their current practices have plunged our country into a huge recession?

Don't get me wrong, there were many reasons for the financial collapse, but first and foremost was an anything-goes financial sector with no regulatory moral compass.

Congress is debating legislation that would regulate what financial firms can do with our money, but with such intense bank lobbying we might not see any reform that actually protects the common good of the consumer or investor!

I just sent a letter to four of the largest banks - the ones who received taxpayer bailout money but are spending millions to defeat financial reform, and sent a copy to my senators as well. If we want reform that will actually protect consumers, we all need to raise our voices.
