I work with our two local universities for interns: the career services
offices either administer internship programs or will know which office
does. If I could afford to offer PAID internships I would have a bigger pool
of candidates of course. I don't know about credit for community service:
that hasn't come up. I do know that students can do internships for credit
or not-for-credit. These two are both the latter. If they are doing it for
credit they pay for the credits and there is more oversight by an advisor at
their school.
Even with not-for-credit interns I try and make sure they are learning
skills and having experiences that enrich their education, such as training
them to use the Past Perfect software and filling our evaluation worksheets
for artifacts.
Hope this is helpful.

Peggy, I'm sorry I can't help you with your question, but I do have a
questions I would like to ask:
How and where did you get your interns? We would love to involve some young
people in our museum and don't know where or how to find them. Do your
interns receive credit for community service?
Any information you are willing to share will be much appreciated.
