The Geneva Lake Museum has sent them out several times in the past and we have found that you get a better response if you have a specific need that you are trying to raise money for.  Several years ago I remember we did that for an air conditioner in our upper level of the museum, which was done in the spring.  I don't have copies of these letters now, but look for some one on your board that is good at letter writing.  Or perhaps someone in the community that is a friend of your Historical Society.  Good luck!
